Natural Curiosities Sculptures

Cabinets of curiosities (also known in German as Wunderkammer; also Cabinets of Wonder) are collections of notable objects. Filled with natural pieces, or wonders from the ocean such as coral, shells and any beautiful thing nature makes. The term cabinet originally described a room rather than a piece of furniture. Modern terminology would categorize the objects included as belonging to natural history, geology, ethnography, archaeology, religious or historical relics, works of art (including cabinet paintings), and antiquities. The classic cabinet of curiosities emerged in the 16th century. In addition to the most famous and best documented cabinets of rulers and aristocrats, members of the merchant class and early practitioners of science in Europe formed collections that were precursors to museums.

We now have many wonderful things we collect, I personally love all items from the sea. My collection has been growing every year as I find items all over the world. I don't only collect old things I have  a few new pieces as well. Blending the new with the old natural pieces creates a wonderful collection of curiosities.

My Mantle in my basement is a wonderful example of Natural Curiosities Cabinet. Featuring seashells and Corals collected all over the world. You can see clam shells and even a rare octopus coral. I usually gather these pieces at antique stores and vintage shops, therefore not harvesting living coral and these are most likely for the early 19-20th century. Mixed with my Cowrie Pewter Like Octopus and and Hermit crabs with Murex and Rapana Shells
